Lawn Deer

The residents of Colorado Springs, CO are sharing this mobile lawn deer this summer.

The pendulous blob hanging down is undoubtedly from a broken tine that flopped down and the blood subsequently pooled in the velvet. These sometimes come off when the buck sheds his velvet (if it doesn’t reattach as the antlers grow and then mineralize and fuse to the main antlers). Note: this buck appears to have 2 complete sets of antlers.
It should come as no surprise why he is in town when you see what happened to his habitat up on the hill in the background!
